In the discourse and the cultural treasures of the archipelago. Kujang recognized as the traditional weapon of West Java (Sunda) and has magical powers, some researchers stated that the term comes from the word cleaver kudihyang with roots and Hyang Kudi said.

Kudi sunda taken from an ancient language, which means the weapon has supernatural power of magic, a talisman, as repellent reinforcements, for example, to Penghalau enemy or avoid danger / disease. These weapons are also stored as an heirloom, which is used to protect houses from danger by putting them in a crate or a certain place in the house, or by putting them on the bed (Hazeu, 1904:405-406)
While hyang in line with other gods in some sense metologi, but for the sunda hyang has an above meaning and status of a god, this is reflected in the teaching of "Ten Prebakti" contained in the manuscript Kanda Sangyang Siska Karesian Ng mentioned "God devotion in Hyang"
Generally cleaver has a heritage of understanding have a certain strength that comes from the gods (= Hyang), and as a weapon since ancient cleaver until now occupies a very special position among the western Java (Sunda)

As a symbol or a symbol with philosophical values contained therein. Kujang used as one of aesthetics in a few symbols such as government organizations, besides the cleaver was used also as a name of the organization, unity, and of course also be used by the Government of West Java Province.
Cleaver in the past can not be separated from public life because of its function as sunda agricultural equipment. This statement is contained in the codex Kanda Siska Trance Keresian Ng (1518) and the oral tradition that developed in several regions including in areas Rancah, Ciamis. The evidence statements that reinforce the cleaver as farming tools we can still see today in the Society Baduy, Banten and Pancer Pangawinan in Sukabumi.
With the development of technological advancement, cultural, social and community economic sunda, cleaver was experiencing growth and shift shape, Function and Meaning. From an agricultural equipment, Kujang developed into a body that has its own character and tends to be a valuable weapon symbolic and sacred. New form of the cleaver as we know it today was born estimated between 9 centuries until the 12th century, characteristic of a cleaver blade and a sharp edge parts such as: Papatuk / Congo (Kujang end like an arrow), Eluk / reparation (slope at the back) , cistern (pronounced curve in the abdomen), and Mata (metal covered with gold and silver). In addition to characteristic forms of very unique materials tend cleaver thin, dry bersipat material, porous and contains many elements of natural metal.
In the verse which bogor as reported by Anis Djatisunda (1996-200), have a variety pungsi cleaver and forms. Based on the cleaver functions divided between the other four: Kujang heritage (Coat of dignity and safety protection), Kujang yard (For Fighting), Kujang Pangarak (As a means of ceremony), and Kujang clippers (as a farming tool). While based on the blade shape is called Kujang Jago (imitating the form of a rooster), Kujang Ciung (imitating birds Ciung), Kujang Egret (bird-like heron / bango) cleaver rhinoceros (rhinoceros-like), cleaver dragon (mythological animal resembling a dragon), and bangkong cleaver (like frogs). Besides, there are also typology cleaver-shaped blade with a leather puppet heroine as a symbol of fertility.

In line with the progress of time and the weakening of cultural resistance, oversized cleaver as heritage objects sunda community identity slowly sinking because neglected anymore. Through cleaver exhibition held at the Museum of Sri Baduga, is expected to inspire people to care for Sundanese culture remains of the full value of local wisdom.
